I know it’s been sometime since I actually dedicated any time here. Honestly since my grandparents passing I haven’t wanted to do art or write. I had some small failed attempts but nothing felt quite right. So, this year I’ve been busy with work and school. And I’ve found myself headed back to art to release the stress I have. Made me wonder about the things I’ve left behind. And I’ve been missing the side of me that’s shared in this blog.
So, my teacher and I found that we have a few things in common. One which is scrapbooking. Something I haven’t really focused on doing since I stepped away from that zany world. But, we went to an evening crop and I remember why it was so much fun!! I did a few layouts that really felt uncomfortable. When you take a look at them you can see that the balance is a little off. But, it’s kinda all new again for me. I’m not even looking at magazines or spending time looking at much but I’m just going with what I’m feeling, which so far is disastrous. Then my friend invited me over to work there. She’s got great stuff!! I attempted another layout. The 3rd layout of my restart into this hobby. Something about this too is a little off. Not sure what it is. But, I’m wondering can it be saved? And if so how? Or should I just trash it and start over? I dunno.

With JPG Magazine back up and running, I decided that this revival means that I should actively participate in this new community. I did love it and enjoyed it from when it first came out, but I never participated. Mainly because of my own insecurities. But seriously how can I learn and grow without putting myself out there to be criticized? So, here it is, my first JPG submission…

Living Room
Right now there hasn’t been too many views, just 17 and only a few people have voted for it. It’s a start though!! I’m excited
If you think it’s good enough to be published in the next issue of JPG, please vote for me.

Using the color scheme from Color Combos Gallore Challenge #110,

…I created a 4 pages. I also decided to expand a little and painted a few more pages. Each took about 15 – 20 minutes. I started off with a base color and then slowly incorporated other colors. Different patterns. And I also didn’t use all 4 colors.

The colors I used weren’t exactly like the colors in the challenge. I changed it up where my yellow was light gold. Which made the yellow not so harsh. I also had create the madarine orange colors. And I don’t think they looked too close. But it was as close as I could get.

This is the same color with a little variation in the painting.

This only has two colors. Less the yellow.

This is just a mix of colors I wanted to try
Then in the middle of the week I started picking out images that I wanted to incorporate in the pages. And tonight I added only a few images to the pages. Here’s how they turned out.

The images from this journal page is from the Crow About Group. Not sure what or how I’ll be filling the pages. But right now I see it as a nice base. I like the colors in this.

I’m not very big on the color yellow. In fact I don’t like it much at all. So, I felt this was something inhibiting. I decided to use the color more. The above color challenge made feel like trying to use a bolder color. The emphemera is from different items I had laying around. The little red sugar packet is from the 24/7 Restaurant at The Standard in Los Angeles. It’s suppose to be a well known hotel with a swimming pool on the roof. I use to make it a point to have lunch down there. They have this great Thai Beef Salad. I might actually write about that on this page.
Did you have an opportunity to paint a few pages? What did you?
